Welcome to Tyler and Parker Thompson's Blog

Tyler and Parker Thompson arrived on June 23, 2008 at only 26 weeks and 4 days old, weighing 1 pound 6 ounces (Parker) and 1 pound 10 ounces (Tyler). Parker spent 129 days (home 10/30/08) in the NICU, while brother Tyler spent 143 (home 11/13/08). We are thrilled to have our family complete with both boys home!

This blog was created by John (the daddy) to inform family and friends (and now new acquaintances) of the twins progression. Below is the blog archive dating back to the week Heather (the mommy) was admitted to the hospital. We try to post weekly updates, but on occasion the week gets the best of us.

Climbing Mnt. Thompson

One of the skills in the Carolina Assessment (from which the boys will be evaluated) is climbing stairs. So...on their way to nap and bath-times (which take place upstairs), they climb baby CLIMB! Nothing like REALLY tiring the Bubbies out before naptime! Parker is starting to figure out that stair climbing = nap and has been a little sluggish lately. Hummm...I might have to put incentives at the top, nap just isn't incentive enough for them. Now for me...I'd climb the stairs for a nap, are you kidding?

Here's footage of the boys on their latest quest - but it's hard to get decent footage while preventing danger from enveloping TWO newly-climbing Bubbies. Yes, of course the footage is to be desired, nothing new there! But you see that I do use positive reinforcement...and some prodding, whatever! ;o)

PJs & Laundry Room

Just another example of the boys NEEDING to go everywhere we don't WANT them to go! Is this a boy thing or a baby thing? Please ignore singing and commentary, again videographer is a little crazy.

Visiting Rosies

Last night mommy and Bubbies went over to Auntie, Uncle and cousin's (the Rose clan) house for Sunday dinner. The boys had a blast racing around the "track", reminding me of my dog Sadie who used to run around the house in circles, over and over again. The boys learned that the house "path" will always lead you back to the kitchen, the heart of every home, right? They've never had so much room to move and so many people to watch them! What a fun night - here are a few pics of their adventure!

T/P: "We're free!"
They were coming...
...and going...

...and resting...

...and in awe of the BIGGEST television EVER!

Can you tell it's Sunday? Yes, the weekly Sunday outfits - Bubbies clothed via daddy.

Twins Everywhere!

Parker looking disgusted that I'm taking his picture again. I just love watching him walk around with his little push cart - too stinkin' cute!

So the boys friends, the Campo twins, came to visit last Saturday. They look so cute playing together! Unfortunately, the boys aren't used to full-term lungs and both cried when the girls screamed with their outside voices. Parker was almost hysterical at times...they really need more socialization. I'm not sure they'll be getting it this winter though - the boys just had another pulm appointment yesterday and the doctor is going to recommend year 2 shots of Synagis for RSV. He also suggests little exposure this winter - between another season of RSV and a fierce year for the flu, it's important we don't put the boys at risk. The doctor was happy to see that the boys have grown with the addition of their G-tubes - he says, "The best prevention is good nutrition!" Words to live by, don't you think?

I love this picture of Parker and Samantha - they could be related! Their hair color looks EXACTLY the same in this picture!

The Secret Door

Since baby-proofing the downstairs, we've been letting the boys roam around freely. I was wondering how long it would take them to find the cat door. Of course the cat is with Grammie taking an extended vacation (that would be forever) so they never see anyone/thing go in and out of the kitty door flap. Well, of course Tyler spies it and that was IT! It's now the most interesting thing EVER! I'm just waiting for one of their heads to go through it.

"Hey mister...what are you doing?"
Tyler: "Who me? I'm innocent!"

"Don't even think about it!"
Parker: "If I don't look at mommy it looks like I can't hear her, right?"

T Cookie

Auntie Teresa came over today for a wonderful visit - the kind where she made food and folded laundry - who wouldn't want her to visit? She also brought over these fabulous "P" and "T" cookies for the boys. Gotta love it - so of course I had to get video of the boys eating their special cookies from auntie!

So on the Tyler video, John's comment was, "can you help the boy out already?" - guess I wasn't quick enough to "act" in his opinion. I have to defend myself with the knowledge that Tyler does this multiple times a day and yes, I always cuddle after choking. I do have to allow him to work it out though - no "freak out" from mommy is necessary. Okay, his face did get kind of RED at the end of this video...

Tyler REALLY wanted to eat the "T" cookie...you can tell in his exuberance when taking the first bite!

And again...don't mind the videographer...she's doing her best! ;o)

P Cookie

Parker SLOWLY tastes the "P" Cookie...what is this mysterious thing?

Who Bought the Farm?

The boys LOVE playing with the farm they received for their birthday - the problem? We don't know who GAVE the boys this farm! There was no name attached to the present and we have yet to find out who blessed us with this fabulous gift!

Did YOU buy this farm?

Let us know...we'd like to thank you!

Lots of fun animals and people to play with, like...

a cow! Yummo - Parker likes the way the cow tastes!

And goat's not too bad either!

Tyler is really into the pig...I see bacon in his future!

Tyler Takes A BIG Walk!

I finally learned how to post video! Here are a couple of shots of the boys walking - it's pretty cute. The videographer needs some work of course, but the boys make up for the lack of clear and steady footage! Enjoy!

Time to Eat!

We have a new Feeding Therapist who has already made significant improvements with our eating efforts. Unfortunately I'm stuck in a health insurance vs. state-run services struggle and she may not be able to stay with us. I am VERY sad about this! So this is Tyler's current oral eating situation - fruit purees in a bowl with oral tools dipped in it for "taste". Here's a NUK brush that he chews on to help push back his gag reflex. He also has a duo spoon - a rubber spoon with ridges on it to get his palette used to different textures. Food time isn't too messy with this one!

Parker is working on exploring different kinds of tastes and textures. He continues to eat very little orally but is trying various types of foods. Here he is eating frozen pancakes, cheesy puffs and banana. It continues to be a struggle for me to not focus on the number of bites or calories...the goal is to get him try a variety of foods and get used to multiple textures. I keep forgetting! ;o)

Parker: "Eating isn't THAT bad!"

Dentist for Parker!

Parker looking concerned about being at the Dentist. Yes, Parker had his first dental appointment because of his grinding! His teeth look a little chipped in the front and I was concerned because his teeth came in quite early. He has eight teeth total and is teething right now again...goodness! The Dentist said everything looked fine and to come back in two years - I guess I was concerned about nothing? Ha ha!

Parker got a tooth brush for his effort! We have to start brushing his teeth regularly now...should easy with a baby who doesn't let you go near his mouth! No problem doc!

Tyler in his jumper - why is THIS significant you ask? Because I didn't put him in it! YES...TYLER CLIMBED INTO THE JUMPER HIMSELF! I was shocked! I was warming up some food for Parker and I looked up because I thought I saw someone jumping up and down...there's Tyler! Of course he couldn't get out himself - I had to help with that! So can you imagine how my days have been lately?

Parker with Uncle Brian

Last Friday was a fun day with Uncle Brian visiting from Southern California. Parker, usually our "stranger danger" guy, LOVED Uncle Brian! He wouldn't leave him or his hat alone. It was pretty cute to see. Of course the boys HAD to wear their Cowboys outfits (to "rub" in uncle's face) but Uncle Brian couldn't resist their charm anyway!

Parker wearing uncle's hat
Parker: "Yay Cowboys!"

Parker: "Hey...I wasn't done with that hat!"

Parker: "Whatcha think uncle?"

Parker: "I make this look GOOOOD!"

Tyler with Uncle Brian

Tyler: "Does it SAY I'm a Cowboys fan or what?"

Tyler's interaction with Uncle Brian consisted of wearing "the hat"...

...and sunglasses!

"Okay gang, look at the camera!"

Moneky Mania

Here are a couple of outfits the boys got from friends on their first birthday - Monkey Mania! They can relate! The camo shorts are too cute!

The Great Escape

So this is what happens when you try to sequester wild boys into one area. They carefully find all of the open holes and try to pry their way out of their "jail". Note the pillows I have stuffed in every crack of opening...yet, they STILL find a way out. Here's an attempt caught on film:

Parker: "Brother, what are you doing?"

Tyler: "I'm outta this popsicle joint!"

Tyler: "If you act fast, you can join me!"

Parker: "I'm in...looks like fun!"
